Robert Kirkman Outcast Comic A Hit

Robert Kirkman is at it again. Today his new comic book Outcast hit shelves. Kirkman is the writer and Paul Azaceta is the artist. I could say that it's very much like The Walking Dead, but then I'd be wrong. Outcast has the scary factor, and based on things that happen in real life. Kirkman's new comic features Kyle Barnes, who has witnessed his mother and his wife be possessed by demons. We see his journey on how he's combat it in the past, and when called upon by a local reverend, Kyle assists. Kyle is asked to help a local boy who is currently possessed by a demonic force. Interestingly enough, the demonic force tries to get inside Kyle's head by bringing up things from his past, as well as saying loaded statements to Kyle like "We're always looking for your kind. OUTCAST."

This is definitely a creepy comic, and should be a must read for everyone who's a fan of Kirkman's work. Have you read it yet? What do you think? If you haven't picked it, do you think you will? Let's hear your thoughts in the comments below!

Batman vs Superman: Wonder Woman Rumors

The internet has been buzzing with rumors about the film Batman vs. Superman Dawn of Justice. Everything to do with the film has been kept secret, with the exception of a glimpse of Batman's suit. Well, today the site JoBlo posted that their reliable resources gave them info on Wonder Woman's costume, Lex Luthor, and what will be spoiled at San Diego Comic Con next month. So it's safe to assume this is all rumor, but nonetheless it's still worthy of discussion.

JoBlo claims, "This Wonder Woman is ripped right from the comics and has a “traditional, yet sleeker” costume that’s “battle ready.” She’ll have a blue leather skirt, silver-armored cuffs that reach to her elbows, golden tiara (with a design of some sort in the center, possibly the red star) and a variation of the traditional-looking red top (no word on additional armor on it)."

The site also goes on to say that in addition to her Lasso of Truth, she'll have a shield, sword and spear. (Not sure how she'll have all of these, considering we've seen her with a shield and sword, and the lasso attached to her hip. Where will she hide the spear?) Supposedly, she is being introduced as Diana when we first see her in the film, and she doesn't transition into Wonder Woman until the final battle in the end.

Well, that's a bummer! We want to see the badass Wonder Woman we all fell in love with. Personally, I loved the Wonder Woman with the pants and jacket. It gave her more edge. It gave her more of a badass look, that just can't be accomplished with a skirt or panties with stars on them.

Moving on, Batman still has Wayne Manor, but chooses to live in a cottage by the lake on the property. Okay...that's not all that interesting. It raises the question of: Why not just live in the manor? *Sigh*

Lex Luthor is rumored to have red hair in the beginning and over time grows to hate Superman, because you know how Lex is with his ego. He will try and convince people to hate and fear Superman.

Overall, I'm hesitant about this movie. Even if all of it has been nothing but rumor, it's still not promising. I also think it's a possibility that the producers wanted certain information leaked to see what the public thinks. All things considered, I really hope this movie lives up to the other Batman movies (the ones with Christian Bale). They should start taking hints from Marvel, and embrace the comics and stay true to the characters, instead of giving us the flashy glamor of Hollywood.

What do you think? Let's hear it in the comments below!

Marvel Cast Rosario Dawson in Netflix's Daredevil

Daredevil - Marvel.com

It's officially confirmed from Marvel that Rosario Dawson was cast in Netflix's series of Daredevil. Dawson is commonly known for her role as Gail in Sin City back in 2005. She will also be reprising that role for the next movie Sin City A Dame to Kill For. Sure she's been in Clerks II and Men in Black II, but nothing incredibly substantial. From what Marvel has said is that "Rosario Dawson will play a dedicated young woman whose quest to heal the wounds of Hell’s Kitchen brings Matt Murdock unexpectedly crashing into her life, while her own journey forever alters the course of his battle against the injustices of this broken city."

Rosario Dawson - Marvel.com

That doesn't exactly sound promising, but hopefully when we get a glimpse of the upcoming Daredevil show, it'll be impressive.

Fun Fact: This isn't Rosario Dawson's first comic book role. She actually did the voice for Artemis in the animated movie Wonder Woman in 2009.

What do you think? Should Marvel have cast someone else, or should they have made the leading lady role sound more unique? Let's hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Until next time, Game on!

Bombshell Countdown: DC Comics Bombshell Covers

Let's talk about Bombshells! I have an appreciation for the old style pin-ups of women, because they have a certain flare to them. If you didn't already drool over them already, DC Comics released variant covers of various comics that feature a lot of their female characters as Bombshells. I thought this was a brilliant marketing tool on their part. The best thing about this is they come out in waves, so it doesn't hurt my wallet all at once. That being said, let's get down to the fun stuff. If you can't tell already, I'm a huge fan of the women in DC Comics, and love that they've been in the spotlight more so recently. I'm going to give you a countdown of my favorites. Here we go:

20. Batman and Ra's al ghul #32. It's an okay cover, but what makes it interesting is that it could possibly be Talia. Or is it?

19. Green Lantern Corps #32 features Arisia and a dog walking service. I haven't followed Arisia's storyline, so I'm not sure if she has anything to do with dogs. Although, it's cute, and has that Marilyn Monroe style to it.
18.Justice League United #32. This cover doesn't do much for me. Nothing about it really catches my eye, but the concept of Stargirl on the cover of a book is neat, just nothing super cool about this.
17. Green Lantern #32 If it wasn't for the name on this cover I wouldn't have guessed it was Carrol Ferris. I do think the ad is interesting approach, but I didn't jump for joy over it.
16. Batman Superman #12 I love the look of bomber jackets, but there isn't much to this cover. Supergirl is posing like Marilyn Monroe, and Batgirl is about to lasso someone. At least that's all I got from it.
15. Earth #2 I've always thought Hawkgirl was cool looking, and they capture the look of Rocketeer in this image. The bubble gum packaging in neat because it has that old feel to it, but there isn't enough Hawkgirl on the cover.
14. Flash #32 I wish I could have been around in the good old days to see what a real drive-in is like, and I felt this cover helped recreate that drive-in feeling. They have everything from the milkshake to the roller skates, but I still feel they could have added more.
13. Red Hood and the Outlaws #32 I'm not a fan of the circus, but I love the way this poster cover features Starfire as a main attraction for a circus. They captured the costume right, and especially the way it looks like a poster ad for Haly's circus.
12.Superman #32 I'm prepared for you all to virtually throw tomatoes at me, so I can say I never liked Lois Lane. Never have, never will. She was never an inspiration to me, and always getting rescued. I will say that I think this cover is spot on. I love it for the fact that it kept in theme with Lois and the Daily Planet. I can't express how much I love her outfit. Well done!
11. Aquaman #32 I think Mera is a visually stunning character to look at because she's unique. Her bathing suit kept with the style of suits back then, and I love that she's holding a trident. The hat on the other hand, has to go, but I can see why they added it. It's just that I'm getting a cross between beach girl meets farmer girl.
10. Action Comics #32 I love Supergirl, but this cover isn't packed with enough punch to put her within my top 5. I like that she's on the cover of a magazine, but I guess I thought they would do more than just pose her in the air above Metropolis.
9. Batgirl #32 Batgirl is another one of my favorites, but again DC lacked the bombshell punch here. I love that it's a post card, and she is seriously adorable in her outfit with the goggles and backpack, but that's it. What else is there?
8. Detective Comics #32 Ahh, Poison Ivy. A lovely earth creature, and I felt putting her as the girl for February was great. Perhaps they could have done a little more with it?
7. Wonder Woman #32 This cover is impressive. It goes back to that old "We Can Do It" World War II poster. If you don't know what I'm referring to then go here and catch up on the times! I still think they should have kept the title We Can Do It rather than She Can Do It. Let's encourage women empowerment! Not just Wonder Woman!
6. Superman Wonder Woman #9 This was an amazing cover. Two powerful women joining forces for freedom. This really is inspiring.
5. Catwoman #32 I know, you're probably thinking this one doesn't deserve to be in the top 5, but I love Catwoman, and this cover is true to her character. She appears on a magazine titled Catwoman. She's holding a huge diamond in her hand, while a cat sits on her shoulder. Now if she was donned in jewels and rolling in dough (literally), I would have ranked her higher.
4. Justice League Dark #32 I love Zatanna, and I'm pretty annoyed that she wasn't part of the New 52 with her own comic. Shame! Or should I say Emahs! If you don't know what that means, then you have been living under a rock! I love her costume. I have the urge to cosplay this! This cover was perfect, and I'm surprised they thought to put her on the cover of a Magic set. Oh and "Ssertsim Fo"on the box means Mistress of!
3. Batman #32 Bravo DC, Bravo! Joker's Daughter on the cover of a comic, was something I didn't expect. I love the way she's on the cover for a freak show. Absolutely stunning artwork. You can tell there was a lot of thought put into this. Every detail is amazing.
2. Harley Quinn #7 Harley is, well Harley! If you recall the old war planes, they often had images painted on them. That's what DC did here. Harley is riding a bomb all the way to Gotham. Makes sense! Look at the image behind her and you can see the Joker and you can make out the words: Joker's Wild. I love this cover. Absolutely unique.
1. Batwoman #32 A lot of people went against this cover for many reasons dealing with Batwoman's sexual preference, but Batwoman is my favorite DC character. There is so much to this peace that I think a lot of people have missed. Let's start with the fact we know Kate is down to earth, and not afraid to get her hands dirty. During WWII women took up playing baseball. Don't believe me, go watch A League of Their Own and you'll see! Now look at the details in this image. Kate signed her baseball card for her girlfriend Maggie. The number 52 represents the New 52, and the team name is Gotham Knights. Batwoman is indeed a knight of Gotham. I also love that her bat is title The Batwoman and a bat symbol is inscribed into the top of the bat. Also, let's point out the obvious reason why DC chose Kate to be a baseball player. Kate is Batwoman, and in baseball there are BATS! Duh! Let's also think about the fact that she is probably the only girl on the Gotham Knights team because their logo is obviously a bat (from the symbol on her hat) and let's see there are how many people in the Bat family? Yeah, it all makes sense. I love this cover, and have already picked up a few copies.
So let's hear your thoughts. What are your favorites? Disagree or Agree with the way I ranked them? Prove me wrong ;-) All these comics can be found at TimeZone Gaming in their store, located in Fords, NJ. Go check 'em out!

Till next time...

Game of Thrones Westeros Intrigue Game

If you're a fan of Game of Thrones like I am, then it's safe to assume you're anxiously waiting for the next season. I know, I know! Season 4 just ended last weekend, but I can't wait till next spring for it to return. (Thanks a lot George R. R. Martin!)So I've decided to get my fix other ways...

Today, Fantasy Flight Games (publisher of some pretty awesome board games), came out with a new game called Game of Thrones Westeros Intrigue. Well, I'm intrigued to say the least! It's a card game for 2-6 players where you claim the Iron Throne. Don't mind if I do! Basically, you compete with the other players for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms. You have to play as many cards as possible, and as fast as you can. Choose where you place your cards carefully, because you don't want to get stuck with cards in your hand, otherwise you face a penalty and the end of the round. The player who places the last card each round, obtains an Iron Throne card which improves their score. (I'm guessing the player with the most Iron Throne cards/points claims the Iron Throne).  The game contents include 36 character cards (Dibs on Jon Snow), 24 penalty point tokens, 7 Iron Throne cards, and of course the rulebook.

A key fact to note is that you'll want to get the Fantasy Flight Square Board Game Size sleeves to protect the cards, as no other company makes them. The cards are 2 11/16 X 2 11/16 or 70 X 70 mm. At TimeZone Gaming, we sell them with the game, so no worries there.

Does this game sound interesting to you? Who wouldn't want to battle it out for the Iron Throne? Although, after the season 4 finale, I have to say Petyr Baelish will probably be the one who ends up stealing the throne without anyone noticing.

As usual, post your thoughts below in the comments. Don't forget to keep calm and Hodor....till next time!

Review of Figment and Blood Queen Comics

This week in comics featured a few brand new titles to the shelf. I'm reviewing Figment #1, and Blood Queen #1. Yes, both extremely different comics! Each week I'll be reviewing several comics that are newly released, as well as taking requests from you to feature comics here. So make sure if there's a comic you're on the fence about getting, you let me know and I'll pick it apart for you right here on the blog. You may just find new comics to read you normally wouldn't buy.

Moving along...I like to read all kinds of comics, and this week a very special title came out that resonates deeply with me. If any of you have ever been to Disney World, then you will get what I'm going to say next. Figment #1 is a Journey into Imagination! I'm sure those of you who understand that are jumping for joy right now. Those of you who are left confused, no problem. *Ahem* Figment, is a character from the popular Disney World ride Journey into Imagination. Figment is a purple dragon who will whisk your heart and imagination away. Truth be told, Figment is a figment, or speck of your imagination, but in this case he's Dreamfinder's figment! Dreamfinder is a scientist who created Figment from his imagination. That being said, Disney and Marvel teamed up to write a series called Disney Kingdoms, which led to a Figment comic that begins with the origin of Dreamfinder, aka Blarion Mercurial, and his friend Figment. This comic isn't cheesy or childish, but it reminds us that we have an imagination that should be put to use. As a kid I loved going on that ride in Disney, and for years to come I sang that catchy tune. Finally, it's gone beyond the parks and I can embark on new journeys with Figment and Dreamfinder. If you're feeling curious, which I would hope your imagination has gotten the better of you...then you can see a video of the old ride here (before Disney updated it.) So what do you say? Are you going to take a Journey into Imagination with Figment?

The second comic I decided to review this week is Blood Queen from Dynamite. I wasn't sure what to expect as its brand new and I don't collect many titles from Dynamite. However, after reading it, the comic is pretty cool. To give you a bit of insight into the story, it was inspired from the real-life story of Elizabeth Bathory, who was known as the Blood Countess, although it won't be a predictable story, so you won't be able to go looking on the internet for future spoilers. Just sit back, read it, and enjoy! It's full of fantasy, witches, knights, wizards and Blood Magic....Blood Magic has actually been banned in the kingdom, and in the first issue we learn that it's vital to the ailing baby princess. The main character of the story is clearly Elizabeth, who isn't your average timid and proper woman of a fantasy medieval kingdom. No, she's sarcastic, flirtatious and completely dangerous. This issue wasn't exactly gory, but you definitely get to see some action and...blood. If you like fantasy, magic, and drama, then you should definitely pick up this comic.

If you picked up either of these comics this week, what did you think? Were they worth it? Any other comics come out this week that should get some attention? Let me know in the comments below!

Comic Books to TV series

If you don't know by now, we now carry comics at TimeZone Gaming! It's been something we've really been talking about for a while and fully embraced back in January. Now that we're in the flow, we've listened to our customers and followers, and heard how much you like when we discuss anything related to comics.

We hereby dub this the first comic book blog post! From now on we'll be bringing you up to date info on everything comic book related. That being said, this post we're talking about the comic book television shows currently on TV and also upcoming!

Most of you have been watching Arrow on The CW, and well, if you aren't then you're definitely missing out! It's based on The Green Arrow, and packed full of action and suspense. Season 3 will be returning this fall, and lately there have been hints that the show will now feature the hero Nightwing, with Steven McQueen rumored to play the part. (Many of the rumors have been circulating on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter).

Another highly anticipated show also coming to The CW, is The Flash, featuring Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash! It was previously hinted at when Arrow had Grant on the show playing Barry Allen without his powers. Now it's premiering on Tuesdays in the Fall! It's already looking to be an amazing series.

On a more serious note, The Walking Dead returns with Season Five premiering October 12th. Where we left off at the end of season 4 really had us on the edge of our seats. Rick Grimes has truly come full circle. It's clearly different from the graphic novels, but what do you anticipate for Rick and the other survivors in the upcoming season? Also, be on the lookout for info on the untitled spin-off series for The Walking Dead. Everything about it has been kept a secret, and a good one at that. All we know is that it takes us to a whole new concept that we don't see in the show, comics, or video games!

If you're a fan of Batman, you're in luck! A new series called Gotham is coming to Fox. The show will center around the origins of Bruce, Selina, and Detective Gordon. If you wanted to know what the heroes and villains were like as kids and teens, then this show is for you. As more is revealed about the show it's shaping up to be quite an intriguing story. You can see the trailers for it here!

Returning for a second season is Marvel's Agents of Shield. The first season was a bit rocky, but when people raved about the ending including Hydra, it may actually be a show worth revisiting. A tie-in to it debuting will be Marvel's Agent Carter. This was actually surprising, because I didn't expect Carter to get her own series. Where do you think they're going with this? Lately ABC has been doing fairly well with their shows, and this show is clearly going to address Peggy Carter's relationship with Captain America. Now, no one can know for sure if Cap will make an appearance, but Samuel Jackson made an appearance in Agents of SHIELD this past season. One can only hope!

Constantine is set to premiere October 24th, and based on the comic book series Hellblazer. It's based on John Constantine, a demon hunter and how he tries to save Liv, (a daughter of Constantine's friend), who possesses a second sight! It seems like it'll be a Buffy/Angel type of show, which will likely draw people to watch the show.

If you're a Netflix subscriber you're in for a 4 times the treat! Netflix has signed on to do Daredevil, Jessica Jones (aka Power Woman/Jewel/Knightress), Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Marvel's Defenders! No date yet on when they'll premiere on Netflix, but their original series have proven to be amazing so I'm banking on the new super hero series following suit!

Also coming to television is The Strain, a vampire series due out July 13th. This isn't your average romantic sparkly vampire series. It's more like a thriller with a team who tries to combat the vampiric plague in NYC. Sounds like a breath of fresh air from the usual romantic vampire series out there.

Just when we thought Zombies were headed in the right direction, it was romanticized much like vampires were. A new series called iZombie, is taking up that mantle. It's about a girl Liv who becomes a zombie, and tries to blend in by getting a job at the coroner's office in Seattle, all the while trying not to feed on humans and battling the urge to suck their brains out. Mmm, brains! Oh, and she helps a homicide detective solve murders...one can only guess where that's going to lead!

Other comics becoming a TV series are Powers, Thief of Thieves, Outcast, Pax Romana, Clone, Ronin, Letter 44, Scalped, Hourman, Preacher, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and DMZ.

I'm excited to see what they do with League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, because I was one of the few that actually enjoyed the movie. What shows are you excited for? Any you think should be left to the comics and not debut on screen? Let us know in the comments below!
